Before I go ahead and post, I want to say that I mean no offence to anyone out there who likes Twilight or any movie that's been made in the past couple years or so. I just need to rant and this is exactly how I feel.
So, I just endured watching Twilight and I have to say...is this really what we've lowered ourselves to? The effects weren't all that great, the plotline made me roll my eyes until I felt they'd fall out, amoung other things. My grandfather's son expected a vampire movie a la Interview With A Vampire, but became surprised and happy when he found it wasn't.
Of course. No parent would allow their children to see such blasphemy! *sarcasm* That is exactly the type of vampire I love and I do so hate to see it so torn apart a la Twilight.
Vampires shouldn't sparkle in the sun - blind me with your far-too pale skin or your burning flesh because you were too stupid to get out of the sun; don't expect me to run in terror or something because all I'll do is laugh at your unfortunate hide. I expected the skin to sparkle like he put too much glitter on (which I tend to do sometimes), not to sparkle like a Rainbow Bright, but then that makes it all the more amusing.
And...calling yourself a vegetarian because you don't drink from humans and drink just from animals almost has me giggling, but then it just makes me shake my head. Amusement, you almost had it. The girl's relationship with the vampire seems almost abusive, methinks. Weird stuff...why do girls go nuts over this book and movie?
...I could be asking myself this very same question with my love of Tokio Hotel or Harry Potter, but then I've lost much of my love for HP over the years and Tokio Hotel is a rather unique band that I'm pulled into wanting to know more. *blink*
It's like with remakes of older movies. Have we truly and honestly lowered ourselves so much or have we lost the creative capacity we had back in the 90's? Film makers probably think that we don't remember the original or they want to moderise it for the tech-savvy crowd.
I like originals and they're sometimes horrid effects, but I prefer them moreso than the remakes people keep putting out. At least, with the creative drought, we're finally heading into the darker side of comics that no one really wanted to delve into because it's so dark and full of angst.
Damnit, I like that. All this comedy, romance, mystery/thrillers, etc. are starting to grate on me. You fucked up Harry Potter because you wanted to make it savvy for the younger crowd and instead of going for the hopeful that they'd be keeping with the dark, angsty theme, they put that as the subplot and made the subplot the main plot.
Romance comedy - or romcom.
Gag me with a bloody spoon, dude. Ten years from now, we'll be seeing another Harry Potter trilogy made and it'll be so much better than the trilogy we have now.
Stop fucking around with originals and start using whatever creative power you have to make something new and original. I may actually not complain about ticket prices then. Hell, I'd pay $8 to see Watchmen or The Dark Knight, but that's about it. *shrug*
